Extra study fee’s due to UvA error

Dozens of UVA (University of Amsterdam) students will most likely have to pay up to 10.000 euros of extra institutional fee’s due to administrational errors by the UVA personnel .
New state measures altered the standard university study fee’s for a second bachelor program from 2012 onwards, as the novel payments could add up to 10.000 euros. UvA students argue that they were incorrectly notified that the annual costs would be 1700 euro – the standard fee up until 2012 – but may now face extra costs. A spokesperson for the UvA puts the blame with the students “who failed to do proper personal research on the matter”. However, student organization ASVA disagrees, stating: “If the student advisors are not up to date on the new developments, how can we expect the students to be?”
