Socialist party front-man Emile Roemer met with far left Bolivian president Evo Morales this morning on the latter’s request. A SP spokesman noted the SP’s current leading position in the polls, their correlating ideologies and it’s involvement with Bolivia in the past as the main motives for the ‘get- together’.
Roemer stated that the meeting was worthwhile en that he was honoured by the visit. “Morales’ visit to the Netherlands is a special occasion, and the fact that he requested to speak with me specifically is very special” stated a visibly excited Roemer.
The two mostly discussed the situation in Bolivia, according to SP chairman Hans van Bommel who was also present during the “exceptionally forthright” conversation.
Van Bommel listed issues such as poverty reduction, school drop-outs and the cutting of Dutch aid to Bolivia as the main topics of discussion. “Especially the latter was considered particularly problematic” Van Bommel said.
Bolivian president is set to meet Minister of foreign affairs, Uri Rosenthal (VVD) and minister of infrastructure and environment Melanie Schultz (VVD) later today
